A PIA spokesperson told Geo News on Wednesday that the airline has reached an agreement with the leasing firm for an out-of-court settlement after which the court ordered to release the plane.

“The airline will bring the plane back to the country as a commercial flight for which PIA staff is being sent to Malaysia,” he said.

The Boeing 777 aircraft was seized after a court order, the airline said, and alternative arrangements were being made for passengers due to fly from Kuala Lumpur back to Pakistan.

PIA Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 777-200ER is a widebody jet used on long-range routes from Pakistan to Asia, Europe, and North America. There are 35 Business Class and 294 Economy Class seats in this configuration. According to court documents, the $14 million dispute pertains to two Boeing 777-200ER jets leased to PIA by Dublin-based AerCap, the world’s largest aircraft lessor, back in 2015. The plaintiff in the case is Peregrine Aviation, which purchased the deal as part of a portfolio from AerCap in 2018.

The case involved a $14 million lease dispute, a PIA official said. In a statement posted on Twitter, the airline said: “A PIA aircraft has been held back by a local court in Malaysia taking a one-sided decision pertaining to a legal dispute between PIA and another party pending in a UK court.

“The passengers are being looked after and alternate arrangements for their travel have been finalised,” the statement said. “It is an unacceptable situation and PIA has engaged support from the government of Pakistan to take up this matter using diplomatic channels.”

Islamabad: Malaysian authorities have seized a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing-777 aircraft at Kuala Lumpur airport over outstanding lease dues.

The PIA plane was seized on the orders of a local Malaysian court over the non-payment of aircraft lease dues, sources disclosed to Geo News.

PIA had leased two planes, including the Boeing-777, from a Vietnamese company in 2015, the Pakistani news channel reported.

The plane was reportedly seized when passengers were onboard.

The aircraft's 18-member staff also became stranded in Kuala Lumpur due to the seizure, and will now quarantine for 14 days as per protocols, sources told Geo News.

According to PIA sources, Flight 895 took off from Karachi and reached Kuala Lumpur and was supposed to fly back to Islamabad immediately because of which it had more crew members on board, reports Geo News.
